WAFROEX x FUNAAB: Empowering the Next Generation of Beekeepers

In a powerful demonstration of our commitment to agricultural education, WAFROEX recently hosted a hands-on beekeeping workshop at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB). The event brought students out of lecture halls and directly into the world of modern apiculture.

Participants were fully suited up, taken on a live tour of the university hives, and guided through each step of the beekeeping process — from hive inspection to honey harvesting. Our expert team demonstrated techniques used in both traditional and modern apiaries, with a strong emphasis on worker safety, bee welfare, and hygiene.

Students engaged in:

  • Opening active hives under supervision

  • Identifying key elements of colony health

  • Understanding ethical harvesting practices

  • Discussing sustainability and the global honey trade

To conclude the workshop, each participant received a certificate of participation, recognizing their commitment to sustainable agriculture and environmental responsibility.

“Seeing students get inspired, ask questions, and suit up to handle hives is exactly the kind of impact we strive for.”

  1. As a student of agriculture here in Ogun State, I’m really inspired by this. We need more hands-on training like this to build real careers in beekeeping.
